Your Colorado to Nevada Moving Team

Colorado to Nevada has two very different drives, and the route we take depends on where you’re going. Las Vegas means I-70 west over the Continental Divide, through the Eisenhower Tunnel, over Vail Pass and through Glenwood Canyon, then south on I-15 through Utah. Reno usually means heading north into Wyoming and staying on I-80 almost the whole way.
Both trips run 750 to 1,000 miles and cross mountain grades that require more planning in a loaded truck than in a car. We plan the route, timing, and overnight stop before moving day, and the crew that loads your home in Colorado unloads it in Nevada. Our long-distance movers page covers how we run out-of-state moves.

Where we pick up. Where we deliver.

I-80 West

Colorado to Nevada Services

Every part of the move, handled

Long-Distance Moving

One crew handles full-service moves from Northern Colorado to Las Vegas, Reno, and the rest of Nevada, from pickup to delivery. Learn more about long-distance moving.

Packing & Unpacking

Desert heat can damage some belongings. Candles, vinyl records, electronics, and anything held together with adhesive need careful packing and should come off the truck first in summer. Our packing and unpacking services handle that and label every box so you know where it goes.

Loading & Unloading

Using a container or driving the rental yourself? We’ll load it with the heavy items low and forward, which makes a difference on the long climbs west of Denver.

Commercial Moving

Moving a business or an office to Las Vegas or Reno? We’ll pack and move furniture, files, and equipment and plan around your hours. See our commercial moving services.

What Changes When You Move from Colorado to Nevada

Climate

Las Vegas is the bigger adjustment. Summer highs regularly top 105°F, nights stay warm, and rain is rare, while winters are mild enough that you can leave the snow shovel in Colorado. Reno is high desert, with cold winter nights, some snow, and hot summers, but not as hot as Las Vegas. It's closer to what Front Range residents already know.

Elevation

Reno sits around 4,500 feet, so moving there from Fort Collins barely changes anything. Las Vegas is around 2,000 feet, about 3,000 feet lower than the Front Range.

Cost of living

Nevada has no state income tax, which is one of the first differences people notice after leaving Colorado. Housing costs vary. Some parts of the Las Vegas valley can be cheaper than Denver, while Reno has become more expensive as jobs around Sparks have grown.

Popular cities for Colorado transplants

Henderson is popular with families and retirees who want Las Vegas weather in quieter neighborhoods. Summerlin, on the west edge of Las Vegas, puts Red Rock Canyon a short drive away, which helps if you're used to having trails nearby. Reno and Sparks suit people who want to stay close to the mountains, with Lake Tahoe under an hour away. Carson City is smaller and slower-paced.

What's the best route from Colorado to Nevada?

Arrow Down

For Las Vegas, I-70 West to I-15 South in Utah. For Reno, go north to Wyoming and then I-80 West. From September 1 through May 31, Colorado’s chain law requires commercial trucks to carry chains on I-70 west of Morrison, and winter closures on Vail Pass or in Glenwood Canyon can add hours. We check conditions before the truck leaves and plan the overnight stop around them.

Is it a problem to move to Las Vegas in the summer?

Arrow Down

No, but it takes some planning. We’ll aim for an early-morning unload when we can. Keep medications, electronics, and anything that can melt in your own car, not on the truck.

When should I reserve my moving date?

Arrow Down

Book three to four weeks ahead, and earlier for spring and summer moves. A small deposit holds the date, and we confirm everything the week before.
